Helmet (kulah khud)

Iran, 19th century

A steel helmet with a bird’s head finial and wings emerging from the sides. Embossed with a sun mask on the front. A band of Persian calligraphy is inscribed in cartouches along the perimeter. Plume holders on the sides. Silver and gold ornamentation executed using the traditional koftgari technique (overlay).
